La Quinta Inn & Suites - Irvine, California
Situated right next to railroad tracks and occupying the space of a former 1949 grain processing and storage facility for lima and soybeans, this La Quinta Inn has an old-style charm. When we first saw the hotel from the freeway we were a bit taken aback because it really does look like an old barn after a 7 hour drive we really didn't need any suprises.
The hotel desk staff was wonderful, she was attentive and friendly and really made an effort to make sure we were satisfied. After registering we took a walk around the grounds and found a large breakfast area in the renovated section which leads to three floors of rooms facing the railroad tracks. There is a small display of old time photos showing the building as it existed before it became a hotel which was pretty cool and an added plus if you appreciate history. If you're a light sleeper, I'd recommended staying in the regular hotel wing, away somewhat from the tracks. The train doesn't run all night but when it does there are the standard train sounds. If you can forgive the noise you'll enjoy your clean and standard room with free wireless internet access, a refrigerator, microwave and continental breakfast from 6am - 9am which includes hard boiled eggs, english muffins, donuts, fruit and waffles to name a few of the menu items.
This hotel is also only 20 minutes away from Laguna Beach and is right next to the 405 exit. It was economically priced at $70 and a great deal over Laguna Beach hotels, especially if you are in town for the Pageant of the Masters.
