Knowlwood Restaurant - Irvine, California
Located in a historic blacksmith shop off of the Santa Ana freeway in Irvine, Knowlwood is a small chain of restaurants in California known for its burgers.
Located next door to an La Quinta Inn and about 20 minutes away from Laguna Beach it was a welcome stop during the first leg of our trip to see the Pageant of the Masters. Our group, not big hamburger eaters were thrilled that their menu included fish tacos, veggie burgers and even grilled mahi-mahi and salmon sandwiches.
Priced about the same as a Denny's restaurant, with much better food and portions, Knowlwood maintains a friendly, casual and upbeat atmosphere. Unlike Denny's, customers place their orders and pick them up when ready so there are no waitresses.
The restaurant is primarily a burger and sandwich joint. Not in a burger mood we didn't test their claim to having the world's best burger as we opted for the fish tacos and fish and chips plates which were both made with battered white, chunky cod. Homemade potatoe fries and tartar sauce came with the fish and chips and the tacos were topped with a tasty white mayo based sauce, cabbage and tomatoes and a side of tortilla chips and very, very mild salsa. Overall, two filling and tasty meals for about $7-8 each including drink.
