Jerome, Arizona
Jerome Arizona is an old, mining town that is now home to artists and restaurants and ghosts. Founded in 1876 Jerome's history is tied to the copper boom that had its heyday in the 1920s, when the population rose to 15,000 and hundreds of thousands of pounds of copper were mined from the earth below.
Today, miners have been replaced with artists and shop proprietors catering to tourists. The population has dropped to less than 500 residentswhich lends to its quaintness. The small town hugs the hillside on top of what was the largest copper mine in Arizona, having pulled out over 3 billion tons and generating a billion dollars for the mine owners.
If you like antiques, pottery, clothing, fudge, pastries, wine and museums you'll be quite happy in Jerome. Prepare to pay premium prices for one-of-a-kind works. If you are in the Sedona area, Jerome is a great stop and only about 20 minutes away.
