Candy Bar - London
Visited London in September and was bent on checking out the Candy Bar as I'd seen it mentioned on Gingerbeer as a cool lesbian hangout. Got there around 10 p.m. and found that it had a healthy mix of lesbians. Bois and lipstick lesbians, your girl next door and dyke types so there was definitely someone for everyone.
The big draw that evening, Friday, were strippers but they were running late and the show was in the bottom dance bar which becomes very smoky and crowded very quickly, not good for those with claustrophobia issues or allergies to cigarette smoke. I was carrying a camera and the Candy Bar frowns on folks taking pictures inside. This is understandable so I checked in my camera bag for £5 which I found ridiculously high although I shouldn't have been suprised considering the high priced liquor. I don't know if it was on account of the strippers being late, but I found the staff not very friendly at all, they acted like they were doing you a favor by mixing your drink.
Overall, the Candy Bar had a varied clientele which was packed into a small, crowded space. I think it would've left a better impression had the bar staff been more pleasant and if the strippers would've shown up within a reasonable time. Neither happened so I was pretty disappointed in the place and wouldn't recommend it.
